War crimes: ICT to deliver verdict of Rajshahi man Wednesday

The International Crimes Tribunal (ICT) will deliver its verdict on Wednesday in the case filed against Rajshahi’s Tipu Sultan on allegations of crimes against humanity during the Liberation War in 1971.

The three-member tribunal led by Justice Md Shahinur Islam set the date for pronouncing the verdict on Tuesday. 

The prosecution and defense counsels completed their closing arguments in the case on October 17.

Abdus Sattar alias Tipu alias Tipu Sultan, 66, now in jail, is facing two charges. He was arrested in May 15, 2017. 

According to the investigation agency, he was a member Islami Chhatra Sangha, the then student wing of anti-liberation Jamaat-e-Islami, and a member of the Razakar Bahini during the Liberation War.

In May 1972, he was arrested under the Collaborators Order, 1972 but was released in August 1974. 

The accused retired in 2011 as an assistant professor from Gopalpur Degree College at Lalpur in Natore.
