GK Shamim's 7 bodyguards remanded again

A Dhaka court has placed the seven bodyguards of contractor Golam Kibria Shamim alias GK Shamim, on a three-day remand in an arms case filed against them with Gulshan police station.

Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Moinul Islam passed the order on, as investigation officer (IO) and Rapid Action Battalion 1 (RAB) Deputy Director Shekhar Chandra Mallik, produced them before the court on Sunday and pleaded to put them on a seven-day remand again.

The accused are Delwar Hossain, Murad Hossain, Jahidul Islam, Shahidul Islam, Kamal Hossain, Samsad Hossain and Aminul Islam.

Opposing the remand plea, defence lawyer submitted a bail petition before the court seeking bail for the seven accused but the court rejected it after hearing.

Earlier on October 1, Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Sadbir Yasir Ahsan Chowdhury allowed RAB to interrogate GK Shamim’s seven bodyguards and put them on a four-day remand in a separate case under money laundering prevention act.

Earlier on September 26, the court of Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Devdas Chandra Adhikari showed Gk Shamim's bodyguards arrested in a case lodged with Gulshan police station under the money laundering case.

A mobile court of the RAB, led by Executive Magistrate Sarwar Alam, surrounded Shamim’s office at Niketan, and conducted a raid on September 20.

Shamim, who used to con people by identifying himself as a leader of Jubo League, was detained along with his seven bodyguards, and around Tk2 crore in cash and fixed deposit receipt (FDR) of about Tk165 crore were seized from his Dhaka's Niketan office.

Apart from the money, the elite anti-crime force also recovered illegal firearms, ammunition, and drugs from Shamim’s office.
