Fake Indian currency: Pakistani national gets 6 years jail

A Dhaka Special Tribunal sentenced Pakistani National Md Emran to six years imprisonment, in a case filed in connection with seizure of Rs1.71 crore fake Indian currencies from his possession.

Judge Md Rabiul Alam of Dhaka special tribunal-4 pronounced the verdict in presence of the accused.

The tribunal also asked him to pay Tk10,000 as fine, in default, to serve six more months in prison.

 According to the case statement—Customs Intelligence officials arrested Md. Emran with Rs80 lakh fake Indian currency from Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in the capital on January 15, 2015.


The then Assistant Revenue Officer Md Mozammel Haque filed a case with Airport police station the next day.

After concluding the probe, sub-inspector Ilias Molla of Counter Terrorism and Transnational Crime, DMP, submitted a charge sheet against the accused with the Dhaka Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Court on December 4, 2016.

The trial against the lone accused started on April 6, 2017.

A total of 4 witnesses out of 8 testified since the recording of depositions of witnesses in the case.
