A tribunal in the district yesterday sentenced five people to life term imprisonment, in the case of gang-rape of two teenage girls after abduction in 2016.
The five convicts are Ujjal Khan, 25, Shukur Ali, 26, Miraz Sheikh, 25, IliasBepari, 20, and ShafiMolla, 25 of Salepur village in Charbhadrason upazila of the district.
The court also fined them Tk one lakh each, in default, to suffer three more years of rigorous imprisonment.
According to the prosecution, the convicts picked up the two girls of Salepur village in motorbikes, and took them to a maize field, where they violated the girls by taking turns on April 14, 2016. They also videotaped the incident.
The convicts then demanded Tk one lakh from the families of the two victims, with threats of uploading the video footage on social network sites, if they fail to provide the money.
The criminals did upload the video footage on social networking sites after failing to realize the ransom money from the family of the victims.
On June 11, 2016, one of the victim’s father, filed a case with Charbhadrashon police station against five people.
After examining the records and hearing witnesses, Faridpur District and Session judge Mohammad Alamgir Kabir handed down the verdict.
