A writ petition has been filed with the High Court seeking its directive to the government to make it carry out a survey to identify the unsafe, and hazardous railway tracks, and bridges across the country.
Advocate Amit Das Gupta filed the petition on Wednesday and annexed newspaper reports about the recent railway accident that occurred in Brahmanbaria.
The writ also seeks HC directives on the respondents to taking appropriate steps for repairing risky, and damaged rail line, and railway bridges within the shortest possible time.
In the petition Advocate Gupta challenged the ineptness of the government in this regard. .
The Secretary of the Ministry of Railway, Director General and Inspector of the railway were made respondents for this writ.
At least five people died, and hundreds were injured after several coaches of the Upaban Express train, on Dhaka-Sylhet route, derailed on Sunday, June 23.
The deadly derailment occurred when the Upaban Express was crossing a bridge at Baramchal in Kulaura around 11:50pm on Sunday, thereby snapping rail links between Sylhet, and the rest of the country.
The Supreme Court lawyer told Dhaka Tribune that the HC bench of Justice FRM Nazmul Ahsan and KM Kamrul Kader may hold a hearing over this writ petition early next week.
