Probe report in case over Chawkbazar fire due June 17

A Dhaka court has set June 17 for the submission of a probe report in the case filed over a devastating fire, in the capital’s Chawkbazar, on February 20.

Dhaka Additional Metropolitan Magistrate, Qaisarul Islam, set the date on Wednesday, as investigation officers failed to submit the report.

A total of 71 people were killed—and many more were injured—in the fire, which originated from a building named Wahed Mansion.

A local named Asif filed the case with Chawkbazar police station over the loss of life and property in the fire, caused by negligence.

The case document states, two owners of Wahed Mansion—Md Hasan and his brother Sohel—rented their house as warehouse of chemical and flammable materials to make extra profit, despite knowing about the fire risk it posed.
