A Dhaka court on Tuesday asked BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia to appear before it on April 10 in connection with 11 cases including one filed for questioning the number of martyrs in the 1971 Liberation War.
After accepting separate time petitions, Judge Md Kamrul Hossain Molla of the Dhaka Metropolitan Sessions Judge’s Court said its next order would be different if Khaleda failed to appear on the date.
Khaleda’s counsel Md Sanaullah Miah submitted the time petitions before the court mentioning that his client could not appear before the court because of illness.
Earlier, the court on several occasions warned Khaleda of issuing arrest warrant against her if she failed to appear before it.
Khaleda Zia was granted bail in 11 cases after she surrendered before several Dhaka courts on August 10, last year.
The 10 cases include a sedition case filed by Supreme Court lawyer Momtaz Uddin Ahmad Mehedi against Khaleda on January 25 last year for her remarks on the number of Liberation War martyrs.
Eight cases were filed with Darussalam police station while another two cases filed with Jatrabari police station on charges of violence during the BNP-lead alliance’s blockade and hartal programme in January and February, 2015.
