Court grants bail to college student in cat-killing case

A Dhaka court on Friday has granted bail to a teenager in a case filed in connection with the killing of a cat.

Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Dhiman Chandra Mondal granted bail after the hearing when the investigation officer of the case Mugda police station Sub-inspector (SI) Nayan Debnath produced her before the court and filed an appeal petition for detention till the end of investigation. 

The court rejected the appeal and granted her bail, general registration officer of the court, police SI Ashraful Alam told Bangla Tribune.

It has been mentioned in the case that the girl killed a kitten on Sunday and uploaded video footage of the killing on Facebook on Tuesday.

The video spread like wildfire through social media overnight.

The video was watched by Zahid Hossain, general secretary of Care for Paws – an organization for welfare of animals.

A team went to the girl’s house on Thursday, when the organization found out her identity and address.

Later that day, Zahid filed against the student under the Cruelty to Animals Act with Mugda police station.
