A District and Sessions Judge Court on Wednesday sentenced the prime suspect in a case filed for the murder of a school student in Derai upazila of Sunamganj.
District and Sessions Judge Wahiduzzaman Shikdar handed down the verdict after hearing the testimonies of eight witnesses over a year.
According to the case statement, on December 16, 2017, the accused Yahiya brutally murdered Humayara Akter Munni, stabbing her with a knife in an apartment in the residential area of Derai municipality.
Munni later died on the way to Sylhet’s MAG Osmani Medical College Hospital.
On December 19, the victims’s mother, Rahela Begum, filed a case accusing five individuals, including Yahiya and Tanvir.
On January 8, 2018, Derai police station Sub-inspector (Investigation), Md Sikandar Ali, filed a charge-sheet accusing Yahiya at the senior judicial magistrate court.
Court Inspector Shibendra Chandra Das said: “The speedy trial was possible as the police swiftly completed the investigation proceedings in the case. The accused has been sent to jail.”
