Husband to die for killing wife

A court in the district sentenced a man to death on Wednesday for killing his wife on January 1, 2007.
The Judge of Khulna Divisional Speedy Trial Tribunal M A Rob Howlader handed down the verdict in a crowded court room. The court also fined him Tk50,000.
According to prosecution, Lutfor Sheikh, 25, son of Rahman Sheikh, residence at Gonali village under Dumuria upazila of Khulna got married with Sabina Begum, 20, daughter of Sakhina Begum of same residence in March, 2006.
Lutfor usually tortured to his wife since the marriage for dowry and family feud. On January 1, 2007, Lutfor hit and chopped his wife with a sharp weapon at his residence following an altercation.
On information, Sakhina Begum rushed to the spot along with some of her relatives and villagers and entered the room after breaking the door. Her daughter in law also had been caught red handed with a sharp weapon.
Three months pregnant Sabina was declared dead by a duty doctor while she was immediately rushed to local health complex.
Sakhina Begum filed a case with Dumuria police station in this connection.
On March 4, 2007, Investigation Officer of Dumuria Police Station S I Lasker Zahidul Haque submitted the charge sheet to the court accusing Lutfor Sheikh. Later, the case was shifted to the Khulna Speedy Trial Tribunal.
