Man jailed for spreading PM’s doctored images

A Dhaka court sentenced a man to seven years imprisonment for spreading doctored images of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina via mobile phones.

Dhaka Cyber Tribunal Judge Ash-Shams Jaglul Hussein issued the verdict on Monday afternoon, said the court’s Special Public Prosecutor Nazrul Islam Shamim.

The accused Md Monir, a cell phonevendorwho also sells SIM cards and recharge vouchers,hails fromthe Saturia upazila in Tangail.

He has been fined Tk10,000 said Nazrul Islam adding:“He will serve additional one month jailtime if he fails to pay the fine.”

Two other accused — Subrata Shil and Alamgir Hossain — were acquitted as the charges against them could not be proved.

The case was filed by the police under the Information and Communication Technology (ICT) Actat the Saturia police station in Manikganj on November 10, 2013.

Monir had also distributed photos of former president Zillur Rahman and former Indian prime minister Manmohan Singh.
