Rajuk official summoned over disappearance of maid

The bench of Justice M Enayetur Rahim and Justice Shahidul Karim passed the order on a suo moto move on Monday after a news report on the victim published in a national daily drew their attention. A Supreme Court lawyer, Shahanara Begum, brought the matter to the court’s notice. The court issued a four-week ruling asking why legal action should not be taken against the engineer. It also asked Joydebpur police station OC to take legal steps on the basis of a general diary (GD) filed by the victim’s father. The news report said she disappeared three months back. Asaduzzaman then threatened her father not to inform the police. Her father, Abdul Ajij Khan, however, filed a GD and said he phoned Asaduzzaman to talk with his daughter on November 19 last year. Asaduzzaman said she fled from the apartment at Panthapath in the capital on November 16. He filed the GD on November 20, but the police are yet to take any step in locating the victim, said Shahanara.
