JMB member gets life in arms case

A member of banned militant outfit JMB in Chapainawabganj has been given life-term rigorous imprisonment in a case filed in 2009 for possessing illegal arms.
Convict Md Selim alias Harun Mistri, 33, is the son of Md Durul Huda from Johorpur Bokripara under Narayanpur in Chapainawabganj.
Judge Md Ziaur Rahman of the Special Tribunal 2, also an additional district and sessions judge, delivered the verdict Tuesday in presence of the convict.
Thirteen prosecution witnesses gave statements in the case.
An active member of old JMB, Selim was arrested during a drive by a team of RAB 5 from Johurpur Belpara village of Narayanpur on July 7, 2009.
Based on his information, a pistol and nine rounds of bullets were recovered from the house of his father-in-law Kamruzzaman of Johorpur Bokripara. Later RAB filed a case against him under section 19 (Ka) of the Arms Act with Chapainawabganj sadar police.
Nababganj police Sub-Inspector Md Shahin Akanda pressed charges on August 6 the same year.
