Writ seeks stay on DU’s Gha unit admission process

A writ petition has been filed with the High Court, seeking a stay order on the admission procedures for the 2018-2019 academic session’s Gha unit—of Dhaka University’s (DU) Social Science Faculty.

The writ was filed on Sunday, reports UNB.

Supreme Court lawyer Yunus Ali Akand filed the writ challenging the legitimacy of the process—as the unit’s exam was held despite on the alleged leaking of the question paper.

The DU vice-chancellor (VC), dean of the Social Science Faculty, and education secretary were made respondents.

Yunus said: "The bench of Justice Mainul Islam Chowdhury and Justice Md Ashraful Kamal is likely to hear the petition today [Sunday]."

The admission test for the Gha unit was held on October 12 and the results were published on October 16.

Fourteen images of handwritten question papers of the entry tests were spread on social media, 43 minutes prior to the exam.

Later on October 13, the authorities of Dhaka University formed a three-member probe committee to investigate the alleged entry test question leak.

University Vice-Chancellor Prof Md Akhtaruzzaman, however, said the incident was not a question-paper leak, and that the probe committee was formed to investigate whether there was digital forgery.
