Two get life in jail for killing farmer in Jhenaidah

Two people have been sentenced to life imprisonment for killing a farmer back in 2012 in Jhenaidah. The judge of First Additional Sessions Judge’s Court, Golam Azam, delivered the verdict Sunday afternoon. The convicts are - Nannu Miah of Andarsha Anduliya village and Shahin Miah of Gopinathpur Village. They were also fined Tk10,000 each. Two other accused, Mofiz and Kalam, were acquitted as charges levelled against them were not proved. The victim, Abdur Rashid, was the son of Zaher Ali of Sura village under Horinakundu upazila of the district. He was abducted and murdered on May 19, 2012. Rashid’s body was recovered on the same night from the water tank at the house of one Amirul Islam in neighbouring Adarsha Anduliya village. His uncle had filed the case the next day with Horinakundu police station against unnamed suspects. Police submitted the charge sheet on November 22, 2012, accusing four people.
