Five arrested over the murder of Chittagong Collegiate School student Adnan Isfar have confessed to the crime in court.
Chittagong Metropolitan Magistrate’s court judge Abu Salem Mohammad Noman recorded the confessions on Friday.
Kotwali police station Sub-Inspector Imdad Hossain, investigation officer of the case, confirmed the development.
“The five accused have confessed and their description of the murder matches the CCTV footage,” he told the Dhaka Tribune.
“They said they had no dispute with the victim, and had committed the murder as a favor to two younger companions.” he added.
The investigation officer also said that the arrestees had revealed the name of those who helped them acquire the gun, and a raid was being conducted to arrest them as well.
According to sources, the gun was taken from Government Hazi Mohammad Mohshin College Chhatra League leader Enam. He is a fourth year student at the Department of Political Science of the college and hails from Kodolpur union in Raozan upazila of Chittagong.
He is also known to associate with local Chawkbazar ward Awami League leader Abdur Rauf.
On January 16, Adnan Isfar, a class-IX student of Chittagong Collegiate School and College, was stabbed to death over dispute regarding a cricket match.
Subsequently on January 17, four were arrested in connection with the murder from a Chhatra League leader’s house and one from Chittagong city through the use of CCTV footage of the incident.
The five who confessed to the crime are 12th grade students of Hazera Taju University College Moin Khan, Sabbir Khan and Muntasir Mustafa, SSC candidate from Holy Flower school Ikhlas Uddin Arman, and HSC graduate Abdullah Al Saeed.
According to their confession, Adnan and some of his accomplices chased a group of Ideal School students at Jamalkhan Mazar on January 16. The fleeing students ran into Mezzan Haile Aaiun restaurant, where the arrestees were, and asked for their help.
Responding to the call, the arrestees chased and caught Adnan, with Sabbir placing a gun to his head and beating him. When Adnan struggled to break free, Muntasir grabbed him by the shirt and Moin stabbed him in the stomach before they fled.
One of Adnan’s friends took him to the hospital, where doctors declared him dead.
