National cricketer Arafat Sunny and his mother Nargis Akhter have been exempted from a case filed by his wife under the Women and Children Repression Prevention Act allegedly for demanding Tk20 lakh as dowry and torturing her.
Judge Tabassum Islam of Women and Child Repression Prevention Tribunal in Dhaka gave them the exemption on Thursday, after accepting his wife Nasrin Sultana’s plea to withdraw the case, said prosecution lawyer Riaz Uddin Ahmed.

“We have settled the disputes ourselves and started our conjugal life again. Therefore, I want the case to be withdrawn,” Nasrin told the court.
On August 17, Sub-Inspector Md Yeahia, also the case investigation officer, in a report to the court said they did not find any merit in the case, and the allegations brought against Sunny did not prove to be true either during a preliminary investigation.
