Security guard sentenced to death for killing landlady

A Dhaka court has sentenced a man to death in a case filed for killing his landlady in Dhaka’s Uttara area in 2016. Dhaka Speedy Trial Tribunal 3 Judge Syed Ahmed gave the verdict on Tuesday. The court convicted security guard Golam Nabi and fined him Tk10,000 for killing house owner Monwara Sultana, 64. The court also sentenced Monowara’s tenant Laily Akter Labanya to life imprisonment and fined her Tk10,000. A total of 20 out of 22 witnesses were testified before the court in the case. According to the case, tenant Labanya was operating a prostitution ring in Monowara’s house. Later on June 4, 2016, Labanya conspired with Nabi and killed Monwara at her residence when the victim tried to stop the illicit business. The duo also stole Tk113,000 from the home after the murder. Victim’s son Lt Col Md Khalid Bin Yousuf filed a murder case with the local police station on the same day. On December 13, 2016, police submitted a charge sheet accusing the two convicts in the case while the trial was started against them on March 21, this year.
