A Dhaka court has given the police one more month to submit investigation report in a case filed against BNP chief Khaleda Zia for making provocative remarks about religion involving the ruling Awami League.
Metropolitan Magistrate Abdullah Al Masud on Sunday ordered Shahbagh police to submit the report by December 27.
The case was filed by pro-Awami League lawyer AB Siddique with the Dhaka’s Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Court of Judge Md Mustafizur Rahman on October 21, 2014.
Recording the complaint, the court directed Shahbagh police to investigate the case and submit a report before it by November 19 the same year after obtaining approval from the government.
But the police have sought time in phases to submit the report.
According to the case, former premier Khaleda made “false, derogatory and provocative” comments while addressing a function at the Institute of Engineers in Dhaka on October 14, 2014. She said that secularism was Awami League’s mask and that it is a party of atheists.
