The HC bench of Justice Kazi Rezaul Haque and Justice Mohammad Ullah issued the rule on Sunday afternoon, following a writ petition filed by Supreme Court lawyer Eunus Ali Akond.
The court asked Reazul to explain within four weeks under what authority he has been holding the office of chairman of the Human Rights Commission.
On November 9, Akond filed the writ challenging the legitimacy of Rezaul’s the appointment.
The petition said that appointing Kazi Reazul as chairman was a violation of the NHRC Commission Act 2007 which states that any person cannot be appointed or hold office for more than two terms.
