The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has summoned former army chief General (retd) SM Shafiuddin Ahmed for questioning over allegations of acquiring illegal assets through various irregularities and corruption.
He has been asked to appear at the ACC headquarters at 12:30pm on September 14 to provide his statement.
ACC Public Relations Officer Aktarul Islam confirmed the matter to Dhaka Tribune on Sunday.
According to a notice signed by ACC Director Md Abul Hasnat, the commission is investigating allegations of Shafiuddin Ahmed acquiring illegal assets through “various irregularities and corruption.”
The ACC has formed a two-member investigation team to look into the allegations, with Director Abul Hasnat as team leader and Deputy Director Mozammil Hossain as a member.
The notice said it was necessary to hear and record Shafiuddin Ahmed’s statement for the proper investigation of the allegations. He has therefore been asked to appear at the ACC headquarters on the scheduled date with a photocopy of his national identity card.
According to ACC records, the investigation into the allegations against Shafiuddin Ahmed began on December 14, 2025.
General (retd) SM Shafiuddin Ahmed took charge as chief of the Bangladesh Army on June 24, 2021, succeeding General (retd) Aziz Ahmed. He retired on June 23, 2024, after serving as army chief for three years.
During his tenure as army chief, he also served as president of the Bangladesh Olympic Association.
