A Dhaka court on Sunday imposed a travel ban on former Dhaka-4 lawmaker Sanjida Khanam and former education and ICT secretary Nazrul Islam Khan over corruption allegations.
Dhaka Metropolitan Senior Special Judge Md Sabbir Faiz passed the order following two separate petitions filed by the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC).
Court bench assistant Md Riaz Hossain confirmed the matter.
ACC Assistant Director Ismail Hossain filed the applications seeking the travel restrictions.
According to the petition against Sanjida, an investigation is underway into allegations that she amassed wealth beyond her known sources of income. The ACC expressed concern that she might leave the country, seeking the ban to ensure a fair investigation.
In a separate petition, the ACC alleged that Nazrul Islam Khan embezzled crores of taka by appointing unqualified individuals, laundering money abroad and accumulating illegal assets through various irregularities, including bribery and corruption, after being appointed chairman of Uddipan NGO. The commission also said there was a risk of him fleeing the country, necessitating the travel ban for the sake of the investigation.
