Court freezes 11 bank accounts of Ekattor Television CEO Mozammel, family

A Dhaka court on Monday ordered the freezing of 11 bank accounts belonging to former Ekattor Television CEO Mozammel Haque Babu, his wife Aparajita Haque and their daughter Shababa Ishayat Haque over corruption allegations.

The accounts contain Tk3.89 crore.

Dhaka Metropolitan Senior Special Judge Sabbir Faiz passed the order following a petition filed by the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC), said court bench assistant Riaz Hossain.

The application was submitted by ACC Deputy Director Biojidur Rahman Khan.

According to the petition, investigators found evidence of several movable assets acquired in the names of Mozammel, his wife, daughter and entities linked to his interests. The ACC said no clear source of income was found to justify the acquisition of these assets.

The petition further alleged that attempts were made to conceal the actual source of the assets through various transfers and transactions, which investigators believe may constitute money laundering.

The ACC sought the freezing order to prevent the possible transfer or disposal of the assets during the investigation.

Mozammel was arrested on September 16, 2024, while allegedly attempting to flee to India through the Dhobaura border area in Mymensingh. He has remained in jail since his arrest.
