Seven bank accounts of journo Subhash Singh Roy, wife frozen

A Dhaka court has ordered the freezing of seven bank accounts holding a total of Tk42,73,701 belonging to journalist and UniMed UniHealth Pharmaceuticals Director Subhash Chandra Singh Roy and his wife, former reserved seat MP Kh Momota Hena Lovely, who are under investigation on corruption charges.

Dhaka Metropolitan Senior Special Judge Sabbir Faiz issued the order on Thursday following an application by the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC).

The information was confirmed by ACC’s Public Relations Officer and Deputy Director Akhtarul Islam.

According to the ACC, Assistant Director Bilkis Akhter filed the petition seeking to freeze their bank accounts.

The petition stated that an investigation is underway against Subhash Chandra Singh Roy on allegations of earning money illegally and attempting to legitimize the funds by transferring them into bank accounts operated under his and his associates’ names, as well as money laundering abroad under the Money Laundering Prevention Act.

The accounts under the names of Subhash Chandra Singh Roy, his institutions, and his wife, Momota Hena Lovely, have reportedly seen transactions involving several crores of taka. Based on information from various sources, it is suspected that they are attempting to transfer or withdraw the funds from these accounts.

If the money is transferred or withdrawn before the investigation is completed, there is a risk of damaging the ongoing inquiry, the petition added.

Earlier, on October 20, the same court had imposed a travel ban on them.
