ACC starts investigation against corruption of Samrat

The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has started an investigation into allegations of flats bought through various irregularities and corruption and income tax evasion against former Jubo League leader Ismail Hossain Chowdhury Samrat.

The information was revealed in a letter signed by Kamruzzaman, deputy director of Special Enquiry and Investigation-2 wing of the ACC.

An assistant director has been appointed as the investigation officer (IO) and the director of the Special Enquiry and Investigation-2 wing as the supervising officer.

The letter mentioned that according to the decision of the commission, the concerned officials are requested to complete the investigation of the complaint and submit a report as per the rules.

At the same time, if any bank account is blocked or any asset is confiscated during the investigation, it is asked to inform the concerned wing immediately in writing.

The Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) arrested Samrat along with his associate and former Jubo League leader Enamul Haque Arman from a village in Comilla's Chauddagram upazila on October 6, 2019.

On November 12 of the same year, ACC Deputy Director Md Jahangir Alam filed a case against him for amassing wealth worth around Tk3 crore beyond his known income sources.

The anti-corruption watchdog submitted a charge sheet against him on November 26, 2020, accusing him of rallying wealth worth over Tk222.88 crore beyond his known income sources.

On May 11, 2022, Samrat was released on bail after spending over two and a half years in jail in four cases.

Then, his bail was extended multiple times.
