The National Board of Revenue (NBR) has asked commercial banks to freeze every account of Petrobangla Director (Planning) Aiyub Khan Chowdhury and his son Md Ashikullah Chowdhury.
NRB also urgently requested a bank compliance report detailing the status of the duo's bank accounts, according to media reports.
On February 24, the revenue board’s Central Intelligence Cell wrote to all managing directors and chief executive officers of the banks regarding the freeze.
The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has been investigating Ayub Khan, who is facing several charges including corruption and possession of illegal wealth.
Ayub also allegedly gave death threats to suspended ACC officer Sharif Uddin. Sixteen days after Sharif Uddin was sacked, the dismissed official said he had been threatened at his Khulshi house in Chittagong.
Sharif Uddin later went to the police station and filed a general diary against Ayub on January 30.
According to the GD, Petrobangla Director (Planning) Ayub Khan Chowdhury, who is now on PRL, went to Sharif’s house with another man on the day and threatened him over a submitted report on various irregularities.
Sharif Uddin attached CCTV footage of the incident with the GD.
After the GD was filed, Sharif was sacked from his post under clause 54 (2) of the ACC's Employees (Service) Rules 2008, which allows the commission to fire any of its employees at any time without showing any cause.
