The Bangladesh Inland Water Transport Authority (BIWTA) has recovered land in a sandbar area of the Buriganga River that was occupied by Solaiman Selim, elder son of Dhaka 7 MP Haji Md Salim.
The operation was carried out on Sunday to protect the banks of Buriganga River, reports Bangla Tribune.
The operation, led by BIWTA Dhaka (port) Joint Director Gulzar Ali, lasted till 5pm.
A signboard in the name of Solaiman Selim was erected on the land on behalf of Madina Maritime Ltd, which is owned by Haji Salim. Haji Salim was constructing a market there by illegally occupying the land.
Gulzar Ali told reporters: “Last year, permanent boundary pillars were erected on the banks of the river in the sandbank area in Keraniganj. BIWTA is carrying out evictions in the area inside the pillars.”
All illegal establishments inside the boundary will be demolished, he added.
Probe report on Erfan Selim drug case on January 3
A Dhaka court has fixed January 3 for the submission of the investigation report in the drug case filed against Erfan Selim, one of the sons of Haji Salim, and his bodyguard Zahid.
Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Shahinur Rahman issued the order on Sunday.
The probe report of the case was scheduled to be submitted on Sunday, but the court fixed a new date for the submission as investigating officer and Chawkbazar police station Inspector Md Delwar Hossain was unable to do so.
Erfan was arrested from his father’s residence on Devdas Lane in Old Dhaka on October 26 for "attacking" Lieutenant Wasif Ahmed Khan of Bangladesh Navy.
Wasif filed a case over the assault with Dhanmondi police station, naming four people and several unnamed accused. The three other named accused are AB Siddique Dipu, 45, Md Zahid, 35, and Md Mizanur Rahman, 30.
According to the case statement, a private car hit Wasif's motorcycle near Labaid Hospital in Dhanmondi around 7:45pm, when he and his wife were returning to their Mohammadpur residence from Nilkhet.
Later, some people came out of the car and physically assaulted the navy official and verbally abused his wife.
