Indian gets Bangladeshi passport; 8 sued in Rajshahi

The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) on Thursday filed a case against the assistant director (AD) of Rajshahi passport office and seven others for illegally issuing a Bangladeshi passport to an Indian citizen.

The accused are AD Abjaul Hossain, MLS Ranju Lal, office assistant Humayun Kabir, Delwar Hossain, data entry operator Almas Uddin, Ibrahim Hossain, typist Abdul Wadud, and the Indian citizen in question Hafez Ahmed, reports UNB.

Jahangir Alam, deputy director of ACC Rajshahi region, said the passport was issued for Hafez while he was in India in 2017. Hafez later collected the passport and went to Saudi Arabia with it.

ACC Assistant Director Mamunur Rashid, who investigated the incident and found it to be true, filed the case on Thursday noon, Alam said.

The case was recorded with the anti-graft watchdog’s Rajshahi regional office, he added.
