The Anti-Corruption Commission has imposed a travel ban on an Awami League leader and his wife for grabbing government land.
A letter signed by Deputy Director Ali Akbar was sent to the Special Branch of Police, Department of Immigration, in this regard on Tuesday.
Most recently, on Monday the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) approved three lawsuits against AKM Awal, former Awami League lawmaker, and his wife Lyla Parveen, on charges of misappropriating government land in Pirojpur.
The anti-graft body approved the cases at a meeting held at its Dhaka office, confirmed ACC Deputy Director (Media) Pranab Kumar Bhattacharjee.
He said: "The Commission’s Deputy Director Md Ali Akbar will file the cases in this regard."
According to the cases, former ruling party lawmaker AKM Awal, by misusing his power while in office, leased government land based on false information and built a three-storey building there in his wife's name.
Later, the building was rented to Pirojpur Rural Electrification Board.
The couple was also accused of grabbing another piece of government land in Swarupkata upazila of the district and building a mansion there.
They have also been accused of grabbing a half acre plot of government land and building an illegal wall around it in Pirojpur district.
The anti-graft watchdog will send a notice to the offending couple, asking them to submit their wealth statements, the ACC official said.
