ACC sues wife of Jubo League leader for illegal wealth

The Anti Corruption Commission (ACC) has filed a lawsuit against house wife Ayesha Akhter Suma alias Mrs Suma, on charges of amassing illegal wealth of over Tk4 crore.

The national anti-graft commission determined the wrongdoing in a primary investigation. 

The commission also found the accused has amassed illegal wealth and committed acts of money laundering in her name and others’.

According to sources, Suma's husband, Jubo League leader Zakir Hossain is allegedly involved in illegal and unscrupulous trade practices with the help of his wife, to amass illegal money and wealth.

ACC Assistant Director Saiful Islam filed the case with its Integrated District Office on Tuesday.

ACC Public Relations Officer Pranab Kumar Bhattacharya confirmed the filing of the lawsuit to Dhaka Tribune.

According to the case statement, the anti-graft commission has found that the accused were allegedly amassing illegal wealth of Tk 3,96,62,788 which was not disclosed in their tax file declaration.

The commission also identified  that the accused built up fixed assets to the tune of Tk67,50,512 in FY2018-2019. 

Ayesha Akhter Suma was unable to make financial disclosure of Tk 4,63,13,300 in her tax file declaration, in violation of ACC Act -2004.

The ACC also filed cases earlier against her husband Jubo League leader Zakir Hossain for accumulating illegal wealth, said an ACC spokesperson.
