A total of 48 students from the Faculty of Social Sciences at Dhaka University (DU) will receive the prestigious Dean’s Award 2026 in recognition of their academic excellence.
The awards will be presented to students from the 2021, 2022 and 2023 academic sessions across 16 departments. Of the recipients, 17 are male and 31 are female.
The award ceremony will be held on September 14 at 9:30am at the Nabab Nawab Ali Chowdhury Senate Bhaban auditorium.
Dean of the Faculty of Social Sciences Prof Kazi Mohammad Mahbubur Rahman announced the details at a press conference at the faculty on Thursday.
Prof Robaet Ferdous of the Department of Mass Communication and Journalism, Associate Professor Shaonti Haider and Associate Professor Khorshed Alam were also present.
Prof Rashed Al Mahmud Titumir, adviser to the Ministry of Finance and Planning with ministerial rank, will attend as the chief guest, while DU Vice-Chancellor Prof ABM Obaidul Islam will be the guest of honour.
The special guests will include Bangladesh University Grants Commission Member Prof Abdullah-Al-Mamun, DU Treasurer Prof M Jahangir Alam Chowdhury, Pro-Vice Chancellor (Administration) Prof Mohammad Almujaddade Alfasane and Pro-Vice Chancellor (Education) Prof Abdus Salam.
The ceremony is returning after a five-year hiatus. Introduced in 2006 to honour outstanding students, this year’s event will also recognise faculty members for their research and publications.
A panel of judges has selected the best articles and books published by faculty members between 2021 and 2023 for recognition.
Following the main ceremony, an open dialogue with the award recipients will be held at the Muzaffar Ahmed Chowdhury Auditorium at the faculty.
