DU Proctor Saifuddin Ahmad resigns

Dhaka University Proctor and Associate Professor Saifuddin Ahmad has resigned from his post.

He has submitted his resignation letter to Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr ABM Obaidul Islam on Sunday, mentioning personal reasons.

He took charge as proctor on August 28, 2024, after the fall of the Awami League government.

"I've been in this role for the past 20 months, and things have now reached a fairly stable state," he said.

"I want to give some time to my own department and my family. Whenever I go to my department, I feel like a guest there; I simply cannot give them the time they deserve."

In his resignation letter, he wrote: "Due to personal grounds, I find it necessary to step down from the position of proctor. I remain committed to supporting the university in my academic role and will ensure a smooth transition of responsibilities."

He also thanked assistant proctors, office staff, colleagues, university offices, state law enforcement agencies, journalists, DU alumni, well-wishers and students for their support during his tenure.

Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr ABM Obaidul Islam confirmed receiving the resignation and said the university would decide on the proctor position soon.
