HC: Continue search for Salahuddin

The High Court has ordered law enforcers to continue the search for the missing BNP leader Salahuddin Ahmed.

The bench of Justice Quamrul Islam Siddiqui and Justice Gobinda Chandra Tagore passed the order, disposing of a petition filed by Salahuddin’s wife Hasina Ahmed.

The court also asked the police to submit monthly progress reports on the search operations for the next six months.

During the hearing, Khandakar Mahbub Hossain moved for the petitioner while Deputy Attorney General Bashirullah stood for the state.

On March 12, the HC bench asked the government and the law enforcers to explain why they should not be directed to find Salahuddin and bring him before it by March 15.

Following the order, Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP), Special Branch (SB) of Police, Criminal Investigation Department (CID), Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) and Police headquarters submitted reports to the attorney general's office on March 15.

On March 10, BNP Joint Secretary General Salahuddin Ahmed was allegedly picked up by law enforcement officials from his relative’s Uttara residence, his family claims.

Police filed a general diary with Uttara police station on March 14 over the disappearance of the BNP leader.
