Two Bangladeshi men have been tortured to death by India’s Border Security Force at Shibganj border, claims the Border Guard Bangladesh.
They were Sharif Uddin, 25, son of Golap Hossain of Kharial village in Manakasha union, and Abdul Hakim, 38, son of late Saheb Ali of Tarapur Thuthapara village of the same union.
BGB Chapainawabganj 9 battalion Commander Abu Zafar Sheikh Mohammad Bazlul Haque said BSF members fired empty shots when Sharif, Hakim and seven to eight others were returning from India with cattle through Fatehpur border early on Wednesday.
“BSF soldiers detained the Bangladeshis and tortured them. They then left Sharif and Hakim in Fatehpur border area. Locals recovered Hakim’s body and took Sharif to Rajshahi Medical College Hospital where he died on Wednesday evening.”
But Sharif’s father refused to talk to the press about his son’s death.
An autopsy was performed on Hakim’s body at Chapainawabganj Sadar Hospital morgue.
Officer-in-Charge of Shibganj police station MM Moynul Islam said there were marks of injuries on Hakim’s nose, head, eyes and feet.
An hour-long flag meeting between the BGB and the BSF was held at Fatehpur yesterday, but the BSF officials denied that Hakim and Sharif had been tortured to death.
At the meeting, Major Minnat Ali, an official of BGB 9 battalion, headed the BGB delegation while Pradip Kumar, assistant commissioner of 20 BSF Chandni Chawk BOP, represented the BSF.
