Road crashes kill 8 in 3 districts

At least eight people, including a college student, have been killed in seperate road accidents in Sylhet, Gazipur and Narshingdi districts on Wednesday.

Our Correspondent from Sylhet reported: “Three people have been killed in a head head-on collision between a bus and a CNG-run auto rickshaw in Balaura area in Sylhet.”

The deceased could not be identified immediately.

Jalalabadh OC Akhtar Hossain said three on them died on the spot in the accident on Wednesday.

Gazipur Correspondent reported: “Three people have been killed and five others injured in a head-on collision between a bus and a truck in Baimail area of Gazipur.”

The identities of the deceased could not be ascertained immediately.

Salna highway police SI Saiful Islam said: “The accident occurred when a Gazipur-bound bus of Ajmeri Paribahan collided head-on with a truck around 6am Wednesday, leaving a women dead on the spot and seven other passengers of the bus critically injured.”

Of the injured, two people died after they were taken to Shaheed Tajuddin Ahmed Medical College Hospital, said the hospital’s residential surgeon Abdus Salam Sarkar.

The others were being treated at the hospital, added the doctor.

While Narshingdi Correspondent said: “Two people, including a female college student, have been killed and four others injured when a bus rammed into a CNG-run auto rickshaw in the district's Shibpur upazila.”

The deceased are auto driver Monir Hossain, 20, and first year student of Narsingdi Technical and BM College Ruena Akhter, 18.

Highway police outpost In-Charge Ataur Rahman said: “A bus rammed into the auto rickshaw on Wednesday afternoon, leaving six passengers of the auto injured.”

“Of the injured two died while undergoing treatment at the district hospital. One injured has been shifted to Dhaka Medical College Hospital.”
