Dhaka Central Jail authorities have received the execution order of convicted war criminal Muhammad Kamaruzzaman.
Seeking anonymity, an official of Dhaka Central Jail told the Dhaka Tribune: "We received the executive order from the Home Ministry at 2:50pm."
Earlier in the day, the family members of Kamaruzzaman have been asked to meet the convicted Jamaat-e-Islami leader in prison by 5pm Saturday.
Kamaruzzaman's lawyer Shishir Monir told the Dhaka Tribune that the Dhaka Central Jail authorities asked the family members to meet the Jamaat leader urgently.
Earlier on Friday, State Minister for Home Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal said the death-row war crimes convict would not get more time to take decision on whether he would seek presidential mercy.
Two magistrates met the death row convict at Dhaka Central Jail on Friday.
Earlier, the Appellate Division judges took two days to sign the judgement they gave on April 6 upholding the death penalty of the Jamaat-e-Islami leader.
The jail authorities received the copy of the judgement on April 8 and communicated it to the convict. On the other hand, Kamaruzzaman, a key al-Badr organiser during the 1971 Liberation War, on Wednesday and Thursday sought time to decide whether he would seek clemency or not.
Kamaruzzaman’s lawyers met him on Thursday morning. A five-member team of lawyers spoke to the convict at the jail.
“Kamaruzzaman said he needed more time to decide on the clemency matter,” Shishir Manir, one of the counsels, said. “He will communicate his decision to the jail authorities within the reasonable time.”
