2 Bangladeshis killed in BSF firing

Two Bangladeshis have been killed when the jawans of Indian Border Security Force opened fire on them on Benapole frontier in the district.

The deceased are Shanto, 45, son of Mohammad Hafiz and Aku Mia, 29, son of Anisur Rahman, of Putkhali area under Benapole land port police station.

BGB 9 Commander Lieutenant Colonel Jahangir Hossain said the BSF members opened fire on a group of some five-six cattle traders near Putkhali border area on Saturday morning, while they were returning from India, leaving Aku and Shanto injured.

“Shanto died on the way to hospital at 7am while Aku succumbed to his injuries while undergoing treatment at Nabharon Health Complex at 8am.”

Aku's body has been kept at the police station and Shanto's body has been handed over to his family members, said the statement.

The Dhaka Tribune tried several times to contact the commanding officer for further information over the incident. But, he could not be reached over phone.
