Death row war convict Mohammad Kamaruzzaman has sought more time to decide whether he will seek presidential clemency regarding his death sentence.
The Jamaat leader said this to his counsels when a five-member team met him at the Dhaka Central Jail on Thursday.
After visiting Kamaruzzaman, Shishir Manir told the media at the jail gate at 11:45am.
“Kamaruzzaman said he needed more time to decide on seeking presidential mercy,” said Monir.
“Regarding the matter, he will inform his decision to the jail authorities within reasonable time.”
A five-member team of defence lawyers, led by Shishir Manir entered the jail around 10:55am.
On Wednesday, the jail authorities read out the death sentence before Kamaruzzaman after getting the copy of Monday’s judgement from the International Crimes Tribunal. Then they asked him whether he wanted to seek mercy. Kamaruzzaman sought a day to decide on the matter and wanted to meet his counsels.
