7,000 land offices to get security guards

The government has taken a decision to strengthen security of land offices all over the country by employing security guards for the 7,000 land offices in the country.

The decision came yesterday in an inter-ministerial meeting held at the land ministry. Land Minister Shamshur Rahman Sharif presided over the meeting.

A land ministry official who attended the meeting said: “Ansar and VDP members will be providing security until the permanent security guards are recruited. The ministry will bear the interim cost of deploying the Ansar-VDP.”

Land Ministry Secretary Shafiul Alam said: “We also decided to take legal action against those involved in the arsons on land offices under the speedy trial act.”

Land Ministry sources said deputy commissioners from 14 districts sent reports to the ministry about arson attacks on land offices. At least 18 more incidents of arsony were reported from different areas.
