19 killed by nor’wester in Bogra

A total of 19 people were killed and over 200 injured in the nor’wester which swept over all the 12 upazilas of the district on Saturday evening.

A huge number of trees and electric polls were uprooted. Some houses tin-sheds and kaccha houses blown away in the severe storm, reports BSS.

Deputy Commissioner Shafiqur Reza Biswas said seven persons were killed in Bogra sadar upazila. They are Aziran, 40, Nila, six months, Palash, 18, Golapi, 40, Mustafiz, 60 and Akalu, 50. Three persons were killed in Shajahanpur upazila and they are Abdul Mannan, 35, Rabeya Bewa, 65 and Md. Payel, 18. Three persons were killed in Sariakandi upazila and they are Shujan, 25, Shanta Begum, 55 and Mozam, 35. Two persons were killed in Kahalo upazila and they are Azizul Islam, 19 and Ismail Hossain, 38.

Besides, Afzal Hossain, 57, in Dhanut, Samina Begum, 27, in Gabtoli Feroja Begum, 55, in Sonatola and Abdus Sattar, 56, in Nandigram upazila.

The injured were admitted to Shaheed Ziaur Rahman Medical College Hospital and Mohammad Ali Hospital in Bogra.

District met office source said the velocity of the wind of first hit was 121 kilometer. Later it came down to 97 kilometer. The rainfall recorded 36 millimeter.

The norwester continued only 15 minutes. Electric supply was disrupted and whole district plunged into darkness.

Fire service people are removing damaged houses and trees from the roads for easy movement of transports.
