Biman Bangladesh Airlines will resume flights on the Dhaka-Barisal-Dhaka route from April 8, eight years after the flight was suspended.
The flights would depart Dhaka at 4pm and from Barisal at 4:55pm on Wednesdays and Sundays.
One-way fare is Tk.3,000-4,000, said Khalilur Rahman, Barisal office manager of Biman Bangladesh. The distance from Dhaka to Barisal is 67 aeronautical miles, and the trip takes 30 minutes. A 74-seat Dash-8 Q-800 plane has been selected for the flight, he further informed.
After numerous breakdowns in schedule, Biman stopped operating on this route from late 2006.
Aero Bengal, Parabat, GMG, United Airways also phased out flights to Barisal due to shortage of passengers.
The Barisal airport has since been used for relief cargo for 11 southern districts.
Md Hanif Gazi, Aerodrome officer and in-charge of the airport, assured that the airport is ready for operations.
Passenger transportation to and from the Airport and the Biman office at Barisal city center would also be arranged, Biman sources said.
