'Indo-Bangla trade deal renewal at final stage'

Commerce Minister Tofail Ahmed has said the proposal of renewal of trade agreement between Bangladesh and India is at the final stage as it will be placed at the next cabinet meeting.

The trade agreement between Bangladesh and India will expires on May 31.

After a meeting with Russian Ambassador to Dhaka Alexander A Nikolaev, the Commerce Minister also said the signing of the renewal of the trade deal with India is at the final stage.

The two parties have reached a consensus about inclusion of several new provisions in the trade deal, he also said.

Commerce minister further said the proposal could be approved at cabinet next week and the deal would be signed when the Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi would visit Bangladesh next month.

Tofail said under this contract, trucks carrying goods will be allowed to cross Indian territories to go to Nepal and Bhutan and return Bangladesh.

Regarding the meeting with Russian ambassador, commerce minister added Bangladesh President would inaugurate a three day long conference title “International Economic Forum” in Saint Petersbough.
