77 Challenge conquered: Maria Conceicao breaks 3 world records to help slum kids in Dhaka

Maria Conceicao is the fastest woman to complete an official marathon in each of the

seven continents. She is also the fastest woman to complete a marathon and ultra marathon in each of the seven continents. Moreover, she had the fastest aggregate time to complete a marathon and ultra marathon in each of the seven continents. This made her successfully conquer the 777 marathon, with Drik as the media partner.

Portuguese humanitarian Maria Conceicao has continued her relentless pursuit to raise awareness and funds for underprivileged children living in the slums with another remarkable feat by conquering the 777 Challenge in world-record finish. The 777 challenge was the first of its kind endurance adventure that required running seven official marathons over seven continents in seven straight days. The event kicked off on February 8 in Australia followed by consecutive legs that took place in the UAE, France, Tunisia, the USA and Chile. It was an epic finish for Maria, creating history by becoming officially the fastest woman to complete an official marathon in each continent. The previous Guinness World Record was 48 days and Maria completed her marathons in 11 days. The previous record was one year and 180 days for Fastest woman to complete a marathon and ultra marathon in each of the seven continents. Maria completed hers within 12 months.

These latest achievement stakes Maria’s record-breaking tally to a total of six all achieved within 12 months. Founder for the Maria Cristina Foundation, the iron-willed Maria pushes her own physical limits to raise awareness and funds for underprivileged children living in the slums.

Maria was joined by two other Dubai-based expats – Rosa Areosa and Saul Keens, as well as Lorena Puica from the UK. Altogether, the group endeavoured to promote the foundation’s cause, whose core focus is to provide children in the slums of Dhaka, Bangladesh with a good education that would lay the foundation for a rewarding career path, and promote the economic sustainability of their families thereby lifting them out of the poverty trap.
