Mayor aspirant demands practice of electoral rules

A mayor aspirants in Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) elections has urged the Chief Election Commissioner, Kazi Rakibuddin Ahmed, to ensure the practice of electoral rules by the aspirants.

Helena Jahangir came up with the call through a written application submitted to the CEC on Wednesday afternoon.

In the letter, she said: “It has been noticed that many election aspirants are using the names of their party and their leaders in their campaign materials. Even the parties have declared their candidates openly, breeching the electoral law of the city corporation election.”

“As per the electoral rule, there is no scope to use party platform in this election. But, may aspirants are doing so, violating the electoral code of conduct.”

As the citizen of the country, Helena called upon the CEC to ensure the practice of rules in order to hold a fair election.
