Morkel's double lifts SA up

Morne Morkel has pulled the rein for the Proteas with his double strike in target of 298 runs against New Zealand under the Duckworth/Lewis (D/L) method in the first semi-final match of the World Cup 2015 at Auckland.

He dismissed New Zealand batting power house Brendon McCullum for 59 off 26 balls and Kane Williamson for only six.

4 firearms, 53 rounds of bullets recovered

Police have recovered four firearms and 53 rounds of bullets from a residence in sadar upazila of Lakshmipur district.

Two teams of BD police conducted the drive around 11pm Monday.

5 policemen injured in Jhenaidah road accident

Five policemen have been injured as a van carrying the law enforcers turned turtle on Jhenaidah-Chuadanga highway.

The injured are Sub-Inspector Shahid, of Chuadanga district police, constables Nazmul, Dilip Kumar, Mohammad Saifulah and Masud Rana.

Yemen call for Gulf intervention

The Yemeni foreign minister has called for Gulf Arab states to intervene to prevent the advance of Shia Houthi rebels into the south of the country.

The Houthis ousted President Abdrabbuh Mansour Hadi last month, who fled to the southern port city of Aden where he established a rival power base.

Peru bus crash leaves 36 dead

At least 36 people have died in a multiple pile-up in Peru.

Around 70 people are also reported to be injured after a bus drifted into the opposite lane.

US pledges to keep funding Afghan forces

The United States assured Afghanistan's leaders on Monday it would keep funding Afghan security forces at a targeted peak level of 352,000 personnel at least into 2017 to provide stability as foreign troops withdraw from the country.

The announcement by US Defense Secretary Ash Carter came ahead of talks at the White House on Tuesday at which Afghan President Ashraf Ghani is expected to press his case for a slowing of the withdrawal of US forces.
