Prime accused in a murder case has been killed in a ‘gunfight’ with the Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) members in Dhaka's Shahjahanpur area.
The deceased is Mobarak Ullah Monty, 28, local leader of Fakirapool Jubo League unit and prime accused in a murder case of a girl.
RAB 3 Operational Officer ASP Saiful Islam said the incident took place at Titipara Sweeper Colony around 3:10am Sunday.
He said: "Members of RAB 3 conducted a drive in the area based on information provided by another arrestee of the murder case. Sensing the presence of the RAB men, Monty’s accomplices opened fire that triggered a gunfight. Monty received bullet injuries during the gunfight while other managed to flee.”
Later, doctors declared him dead when he was taken to Dhaka Medical College Hospital, the official said.
The RAB members also recovered one pistol and two rounds of ammunition from the spot.
Earlier, police recovered the sliced body of a girl from Monty’s building at the capital’s Fakirapool area on March 10.
Police suspected that miscreants rapped the girl before killing her. Later, they left the parts of the body in different places.
