Danish minister concerned over political turmoil

Danish Minister for Trade and Development Mogens Jensen has expressed grave concern over the ongoing political turmoil in Bangladesh.

“Everybody is concerned over the ongoing hartal and blockade enforced by the political opposition in Bangladesh,” Jensen told the reporters after holding a meeting with Finance Minister AMA Muhith on Wednesday.

The Danish minister said: “We believe in the current government and hope that it will negotiate with all the political parties to find-out an effective solution to the ongoing political turmoil.”

Talking about the meeting agenda, he said: “We have discussed about a new economic development project, which will run in Bangladesh in between 2016 and 2021.”

He said they have also discussed about the employment in the agriculture sector, energy and resilience in country 's environment sector.

Denmark is one of Bangladesh’s leading development partners that currently works in the water, sanitation, agriculture, human rights, and development sectors.

Danish government has invested a total of Tk600 crore in the country.

The Danish minister has reached Dhaka on a three-day official tour on Tuesday.

He will attend a high-level conference on readymade garment and visit Danida-backed projects.

He will also meet key stakeholders in the garment industry, Danish companies, and the beneficiaries of Danish development assistance.

It is his first to Bangladesh which coincides with BNP's ongoing nationwide blockade and general strikes.
