The first English-language trailer for Columbian director Ciro Guerra’s The Embrace of the Serpent has been released by Ciudad Lunar, and is now available on Youtube.
The Embrace of the Serpent traces the epic journey of encounter, betrayal and, eventually, life-transcending friendship, between the reclusive Karamakate, an Amazonian shaman and last survivor of his people, and two scientists on a 40 year search for a sacred plant that can heal them.
The cast features Brionne Davis of Savaged fame and Belgian actor Jan Bijvoet, who you may recognize from the Cannes Festival entry Borgman, as well as two non-pro actors, Nilbio Torres, from the Cubeo Vaupes people, and Antonio Bolivar, one of the last of the Ocainas.
The film, which is currently in post-production, is slated for release in May at the Cartagena Festival.
