The nation will observe the 95th birth anniversary of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and the National Children’s Day today.
Different socio-political and cultural organisations including the ruling Awami League and its affiliated bodies have chalked out elaborate programmes to mark the day.
President Abdul Hamid and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina issued separate messages on the eve of the day paying glowing tribute to Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.
The day is a public holiday. National dailies will publish special supplements while Bangladesh Betar, Bangladesh Television and other private television channels and FM radio stations will air special programmes highlighting the significance of the day.
The Cultural Affairs Ministry, Religious Affairs Ministry, Social Welfare Affairs Ministry, Bangla Academy, Bangladesh Shishu Academy, Nazrul Institute, Islamic Foundation and other institutions will hold discussions and cultural programmes to mark Bangabandhu’s birthday.
Besides, special prayers will be offered at mosques and all the places of worships across the country on this occasion.
The Awami League’s programmes for the day include hoisting of the national and party flags at 6:30am and placing of wreaths at Bangabandhu’s portrait at Dhanmondi’s Bangabandhu Memorial Museum at 7am, said a press release from Awami League chief Sheikh Hasina’s political office.
Hasina along with cabinet members, party lawmakers, other leaders and activists will also place wreaths at the grave of Bangabandhu in the Mausoleum Complex at Tungipara in Gopalganj.
Children’s gatherings, rally, discussions and cultural functions would be organised at district and upazila levels.
On March 18, the Awami League will also organise a rally at Bangabandhu International Conference Centre, where Hasina is scheduled to address as the chief guest.
