SCBA polls begin Sunday

The two-day elections of the Supreme Court Bar Association (SCBA) executive committee will begin on Sunday.

A total of 31 candidates will fight against 14 posts, reports BSS.

Of them, four candidates are contesting for the post of president, five for two posts of vice-president, two for the post of secretary, two for the post of treasurer, four for the post of assistant secretary and 14 for seven member posts.

Advocate Yusuf Hossain Humayun and Advocate Momtaz Uddin Mehedi are contesting from White Panel, pro-Awami League Sammilita Ainjibi Samannaya Parishad while Advocate Khandaker Mahbub Hossain and Barrister AM Mahbub Uddin Khokon are contesting from Blue Panel, pro-BNP-Jamaat lawyers, for the posts of president and the general secretary respectively.

Besides, Advocate Dr. Yunus Ali Akanda and Advocate M Obaidul Haq Pirjada are contesting for the post of president as independent candidates.

Advocate Nazrul Islam is also contesting as an independent candidate for the post of vice-president.

A total of 4,362 members, eligible to vote, will cast their ballots to elect their leaders for 2015-16.

Voting will take place on the Supreme Court premises from 10am to 5pm with an hour break.

A sub-committee led by Advocate Harunur Rashid is conducting the election.
